Intern diaries: Taliah Ebert
My name is Taliah Ebert (26) and I am BPR’s latest intern. A country girl at heart, I was drawn to relocate to the city to pursue a degree in Journalism and Professional Writing and follow a career path in broadcast. After graduating from university two and a half years ago, I got caught up in the cycle of working my full-time retail job to sustain my lifestyle and I knew something had to change, starting with gaining experience. By this time, I found additional interest in the public relations, marketing, and social media realm.
What makes BPR unique is their boutique approach to supporting the live and local businesses across Adelaide; their client variety makes for a very fast paced work environment, assuring no day is the same.
My day looks a little something like this:
6.55am – Wake up to one of my four alarms. I immediately check the weather to help decide what I will be wearing that day. Skincare is a non-negotiable.
7.55am – Honour one of my three ‘time-to-go’ alarms. It is a 45-50 minute commute to the city for me, so I have to ensure there’s ample time and to consider traffic. During this time I listen to my emotion-arranged Spotify playlist to set me up for the day.
9.00am – Arrive at the office and settle in. If it is a Tuesday, the team will meet at a local cafe to discuss their progress and goals for the week – we call this a WIP.
9.05am – Begin the work. Each day is different, so the task is always dependent. You will typically find me completing media releases, doing article research, writing blurbs and descriptions, content creating and drafting posts, preparing for upcoming events, or creating social media calendars for the upcoming months. Occasionally we will be out-of-office periodically to meet clients at an offsite location, such as the radio station or at a school.
12.00pm – Lunch time. Sometimes I pack, sometimes I don’t. I will usually get fresh air and my steps up by window shopping (one of the many perks of being on Rundle Street).
1.00pm – Back to work.
3.00pm – Probably treating myself to a cheeky snack or sweet treat.
5.00pm – Home time. To wind down, I listen to music or the Mel Robbins Podcast on the drive home.
6.20pm – Make some dinner then have a shower to freshen up and complete my nightly skincare routine. My easy, go-to dinner is a tuna greek salad.
7.30pm – Do something that I enjoy which helps take my mind off the day, starting with a cup of tea. You’ll likely find me watching the NBA, a movie or a show while on the walking pad (loving New Girl at the moment), scrapbooking, or playing games on the Xbox (likely Dead by Daylight or X-Com).
Public relations really is more than meets the eye. It is linked to everything around you.
From the websites you view, the businesses you follow and shop from, the events you attend, to the media you consume. What I’ve learned thus far is that the success of our functioning world heavily relies on the power of public relations far more than we imagine. What I appreciate about interning with BPR is that each day is not the same and there is variety in everything you do. I appreciate that it is creative, yet stimulating and not repetitive – it’s challenging and thought-provoking in the best way.

As a final note, I would like to thank the incredible team at BPR for their friendliness, support and patience over my time in the office and giving me the opportunity to improve and expand my knowledge within the industry.
The BPR team are always looking for fabulous interns to join us and kickstart their career in communications.
