Point Nepean National Park
Background
In 2002 the Federal Government proposed selling 311 hectares of Quarantine Station land for development; the proposed sale was abandoned in 2003 following strong community protest which was led by Kate Baillieu and included two past Victorian Premier’s. An agreement between the state and federal government was reached and in 2009 the land was finally handed back to the state government and was proclaimed part of the Point Nepean National Park. A master plan was developed to determine the future directions of Point Nepean National Park focusing on visitor experience planning and staged development of the park.
What We Did
We developed a comprehensive communication and engagement plan to ensure objectives of the master plan were positively achieved which included giving the Victorian community an opportunity to communicate and contribute to the wider direction of Point Nepean National Park.
Our Result
With an aim to ensure complete transparency and consistency an overwhelming positive response was received from the community throughout its community consultation process of the master plan. There was only a small number of objections with an overwhelming majority support from the community who fought so hard to save Point Nepean National Park.
